Family-Friendly Animal, Nature, and Water Parks in Costa del Sol

Animals and Nature
Don't miss out on fun activities for all ages! If you're drawn to animals and nature, you can head to Bioparc Fuengirola Zoo for exciting encounters with a variety of exotic animals. This zoo is one of the best zoos in all of Europe and the most visited park in Andalusia. In the park, there are four different habitats where more than 200 species coexist. In one of them, "Madagascar Island," you can meet the famous lemurs. In Equatorial Africa, you can see the only pair of coastal gorillas in Andalusia. In the third habitat, Southeast Asia, you'll find the abandoned mine, the river forest, and the forest turtle, home to the endangered crocodile species, the False Gharial. Finally, in the fourth and last habitat, Indo-Pacific, you can encounter the famous Komodo dragon and Galapagos giant tortoises.

For those who can't get enough of crocodiles, there's a crocodile park in Torremolinos, and it is exactly what the name suggests - a park full of crocodiles. Besides Europe's largest crocodile, you'll also find alligators, turtles, and ducks. If you're feeling brave, you can even try holding a baby crocodile.

Equally fascinating, but smaller animals, can be seen in the Butterfly Park in Benalmadena, where you'll find over 1500 different butterfly species. Or at the Sea Life aquarium, where you can watch some of the animals being fed and take a tour through the underwater tunnel. There are also two nature reserves in Malaga. The first is El Torcal, where children's imaginations can run wild in this prehistoric, fossilized, and rocky park. The second reserve is Guadalhorce, a paradise for birdwatching. Additionally, there are excellent mountain biking and hiking trails.

Water Parks
Once the animal quota is filled, there are several water parks along the coast to cool off in during the summer months. From mid-June to early September, you can visit Aquavelis. The park is located in Torre Del Mar, just a 15-minute drive from Nerja. Here, you'll find grassy areas with sunbeds and umbrellas for rent, a play area, restaurants, a small children's pool, numerous slides and larger pools, changing rooms, and lockers. Aquatropic is another option to visit if you prefer saltwater. This saltwater park is in Almuñécar, just a 20-minute drive from Nerja. Here, you'll also find plenty of slides, rides, attractions, and various areas with sunbeds and umbrellas for rent.
